Vijay's
Kaththi has become a stupendous hit in Tamil Nadu. But the film’s
success is not solely attributed to its hero and film’s director
Murugadoss.
One of the main reasons the
film became a huge hit with Tamil audiences is its storyline.
In the film, the hero takes on the corporates for trying to do away with green, agricultural fields. So, when such a potent story was offered to power star Pawan Kalyan in Telugu, why did he refuse to do the film?
It is a well-known fact that Telugu stars often complain about lack of good stories. And when such a good story which has the potential to be a sure-shot hit fell into his lap, Pawan Kalyan coolly refused to accept the offer.
In fact, Pawan does not have very many films on hand either. Gopala Gopala is on the brink of getting completed and Gabbar Singh 2 has become like
a never-ending telly serial. There is no clarity as to when the film will go on the floor and who will direct it.
Naturally, Pawan’s decision has generated a lot of curiosity in tinsel ville. Well, here’s the actual reason which made Pawan back off from the project.
Kaththi’s story revolves around green agricultural lands, SEZs, corporate real estate dealings, etc. Before the elections, Pawan could afford to have his films filled with hard-hitting dialogues like ‘is a two bedroom flat not sufficient to live happily? Isn’t one car sufficient, why do you need four cars?’
On the same lines, if he would have done Kaththi remake in Telugu, he could have had dialogues like – ‘Is 3000 acres not sufficient for the new capital? Do you require 30,000 acres? Will you steal the livelihood of farmers and feed the real estate sharks?’
But given the position that Pawan Kalyan is in now, he cannot afford to do that. If such a film hits the theatres, it will sensitize the audience and make them revolt against Chandra Babu which will put his plans of a real estate capital in a fix.
Right now, Pawan Kalyan is acting like a virtual bodyguard for Chandra Babu and his party. If such a film comes out at this juncture, it would work against the image of Babu and his proposed capital. Naturally, Pawan washed off his hands by turning down the offer.
The next obvious question is -- who else would be best suited to do the role? Of course, the first choice would be Mahesh. But he has his ‘b-i-l’ problems as Jaydev Galla is a TDP MP.
Well, the best options would be Chiranjeevi or Ram Charan. Already, Chiranjeevi is in the opposition. Hence, it would be a perfect plot for him especially since he is looking for a message-oriented subject for his 150th film. All he needs to do is tweak the story a bit to suit his age and voila, he would have a perfect plot. And if he is not comfortable doing a double role, then the other character can be played by Ram Charan, which will take the film to a totally different level.
Talk in tinsel ville is that the same thought would have occurred to the megastar too. But given that Chiranjeevi has also decided to keep quiet, looks like he has his own links to worry about.
